About lisa

I am a UK artist working in dry media, primarily soft pastels, pastel pencils and charcoal, creating atmospheric landscapes. I am drawn to woodland environments and the way light behaves within them – filtering, fragmenting and disappearing into shadow, changing the way a place feels.

Woodland spaces fascinate me because they sit somewhere between calm and uncertainty. They can feel inviting and beautiful, but also mysterious or unsettling. Light and dark play an important role in my work, helping to shape mood and guide the viewer’s experience rather than describe a specific location.

My drawings are inspired by real landscapes but are not direct representations. Instead, they combine observation with memory and imagination, creating spaces that feel familiar yet dreamlike. I’m interested in that quiet balance between reality and the imagined, and in the emotional pull of being within the landscape. Through layered mark-making and tonal control, I aim to create landscapes that feel familiar yet unstable, places that invite the viewer in, while resisting full clarity or resolution.
